DORIAN BARTLEY sings vintage jazz and blues while playing upright bass,
supported by the piano and cornet of Bob Johns. They are joined by a
variety of instruments as suits the occasion, including percussion and tenor
sax: The doRiaN Mode Quartet enjoys jazz standards, cabaret classics and
early R&B. Dorian expresses her biracial identity through her music.
She was born in the Midwest and performed in string bands throughout
her youth. Dorian pursued choral studies at the University of Michigan and
the University of California at Berkeley and taught vocal music for many
years in Petaluma's public schools as well as working with the Artifacts, a
local trio. She currently performs with Foxes in the Henhouse, winner of the
Bohemian's 2013 Norbay Award for Best Acoustic/Folk Band, as well as
